Admiral Robert Nesham Bax, C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (15 November, 1875 – 21 September, 1969) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Bax was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 January, 1896.[1]

In 1900, Bax was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for saving a man from the dock at Chatham on 21 August.[2]

Bax was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1905.[3]

On 1 January, 1913, Bax was promoted to the rank of Captain.[4]

He was appointed to command the battleship Prince of Wales on 18 November, 1913.[5]

Bax married Halinor Marjorie Parke on 25 May, 1914.[6]

Great War

He was appointed to command of the new battleship Lord Nelson in June, 1916.[7]

He was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1918.[8]

Post-War

In January, 1921, Bax was lent to Victory, additional, as a Commodore, Second Class and in command of the Naval Brigade at Aldershot.[9]

Bax was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 24 March, 1923, in place of James Ley, promoted to Vice-Admiral.[10] He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 22 February, 1928, vice Rudolf Bentinck, and placed on the Retired List on 23 February, as he had not hoisted his flag at sea.[11]

On 12 October, 1932 Bax was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List.[12]

World War II
