Commander (retired) Richard Allen Everitt, (12 February, 1896 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of engineer Nevill H. Everitt. His evaluations throughout his career indicate he was shy and rather unsure of himself.[1]

Everitt's first ship was the armoured cruiser Defence of the First Cruiser Squadron, appointed to her upon passing out of the Training Establishment on 15 September 1913. He fought in her until being appointed to Arun on 8 December 1915. In May 1916, he was appointed to the destroyer Paladin, which was still being completed. She would operate as part of the Thirteenth Destroyer Flotilla.[2]

Everitt was sent to the torpedo training school H.M.S. Vernon for a one week course in Torpedo Control in April of 1917 and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1917. He next went back to destroyers, spending four months in Undine and eight in Renard. He would serve through the end of the war in the battleship Agamemnon, being appointed for a year in her from April 1918.[3]

Everitt was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1925.[4]

World War II

Everitt was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 12 February, 1941.[5]
