Brenton must have been a fearless man. He earned the Royal Humane Society's Silver Medal in 1869 as a Sub-Lieutenant, and added a clasp to the award in 1872.[1]

Brenton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 3 September, 1872.

Incredibly, Brenton was awarded a second clasp to his R.H.S. Silver Medal in 1876.[2]
