Commander (retired) Reginald Nash, D.S.C. (20 August, 1889 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Gloucester, the son of G. E. Nash, Esq..
Nash gained two months' time on passing out of Britannia and receiving his first naval appointment to the armoured cruiser Leviathan on 15 January, 1906.[1]
Nash was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1911.[2]
On 15 December, 1913, Nash was appointed first Lieutenant in the Acheron Class destroyer Badger.
Great War
Nash served in Badger until being appointed to Beaver on 18 May, 1915. This posting proved transitional, as he was sent briefly to Victory in mid-September and then appointed on 24 September to take command of the "C" Class destroyer Leopard.[3]
D.S.C. gazetted 22 June, 1917.
Nash was appointed in command of the destroyer Speedy on 5 July, 1918.[4]
Nash was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1919.[5]
He was appointed in command of the destroyer Vendetta in August, 1920.[6]
On 10 May 1927, Nash was appointed to Harebell, additional, for command of the tank vessel H.M.S. Colne. He was superseded on 13 May, 1929.[7]
Nash was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 20 August, 1932.[8]
World War II
Nash's mobilisation was to be delayed one month on account of his role as sole proprietor of a pig farm under contract to the Pig Marketing Board.
Nash was appointed in command of the yacht Surprise on 3 January, 1940. A later appointment in succession to Bradyll is illegible due to a torn page. Another appointment had him with Proserpine, additional, as an Assistant Chief of Staff, vice Heath.
In July 1943, Nash was reverted to the Retired List on compassionate grounds. Details of his service were forwarded in 1946 to support his application for war medals.[9]
