Vice-Admiral Raymond Fitzmaurice, K.B.E., D.S.O., (7 August, 1878 – 25 October, 1943) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career

Fitzmaurice was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 March, 1901.[1]

As a Lieutenant in April 1913, he was awarded an aviation certificate, having flown a Short biplane out of the Central Flying School in Upavon.[2]

Fitzmaurice was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1913.[3]

Fitzmaurice was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1918.[4] He would command several of the dreadnoughts in the 1920s.

In May 1925, he assumed command of the battleship Resolution.

In March 1926, he assumed command of the battleship Iron Duke.

He was placed on the Retired List on 2 September, 1929. In 1939, he was called back to service, being appointed to Eaglet II in September with the rank of Commodore, Second Class, R.N.R.. He succumbed to angina on 25 October, 1943.[5]
