A Ram is a warship designed primarily to attack its target by ramming it.
Ancient ships often were fitted with reinforced ram bows to rupture the hull of their target. The late but sudden maturation of modern gunnery and torpedoes prompted some navies to build rams into the 1890s, or at least to equip more varied warships with bows suitable to ramming attack.
