Captain Ralph Vincent Eyre, D.S.O., R.N., Retired (21 September, 1882 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Mayfair West, the son of retired Colonel Henry R. Eyre, Coldstream Guards Regiment.

After having already commanded an impressive three destroyers as a Sub-Lieutenant, Eyre was appointed in command of the destroyer Brisk on 31 December, 1911.[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1912 and would remain in command of Brisk until being appointed in command of the new "M" Class destroyer H.M.S. Mounsey in October 1915.

Eyre would command her at the Battle of Jutland as part of the Eleventh Destroyer Flotilla.[2]

Eyre was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1916.[3]

He was appointed in command of the destroyer Wryneck on 18 September, 1918.[4]

Post-War

Eyre was placed on the Retired List at his own request upon expiration of his foreign service leave, which occurred on 2 March, 1923.

Eyre was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 21 September, 1927.
