Rear-Admiral (retired) Ralph Collins, C.B., R.N., (17 February, 1877 – ) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career

Born in Reading, Collins gained seven months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Collins was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1899.[1]

On 31 December, 1911, Collins was promoted to Commander.[2]

Collins was appointed to the armoured cruiser Argyll on 26 July 1914 and served in her until she was lost in October 1915. On 16 December 1915 he was appointed executive officer in Colossus. He was superseded on 15 January, 1917. There seems to be a curious gap in his record, as he was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1917 and his next appointment did not occur until he was appointed in command of Arrogant on 14 February, 1918. He commanded her until March, 1919, except for six weeks commencing in late March, 1918 when he was additional to the ship, providing "special service".[3]

Post-War

On 19 May 1919, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Carysfort.[4]

Collins was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 25 July 1922 and was subsequently promoted to Rear-Admiral (retired) on 25 March, 1929.[5]

World War II

Collins worked in the Observer Corps, starting in 1939.[6]
