Ralph Berthon Gossage
Commander (retired) Ralph Berthon Gossage, (28 March, 1895 – 2 October, 1944) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Gossage was appointed to Salmon on 5 December, 1916. This assignment gave him the inestimable advantage, for history, of being a junior officer to Lionel George Dawson, whose favour he would win and with whom he would serve in several appointments.
Gossage was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1916.[1]
Gossage was appointed to Tobago, where he would again serve under Lionel Dawson, on 29 January, 1919. Their exploits in the Black Sea would be captured in Dawson's book, Mediterranean Medley. He left when he was appointed to Sirdar on 6 September, 1920.[2]
Gossage was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1924.[3]
Gossage was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 28 March, 1938.[4]
