Commander (retired) Philip Ernest Uniacke Townshend (16 December, 1885 – 30 September, 1959) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Dublin, Townshend gained two and a half months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Mercury for instruction in submarines, 25 April, 1907.

Townshend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1907.

Townshend was appointed in command of the submarine A 12 on 1 January, 1910.[1]

Townshend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1915.

Post-War

Townshend was appointed in command of the flotilla leader Campbell on 24 December, 1918.[2]

Townshend was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 15 June, 1927.
