Admiral (retired) Percy Molyneux Rawson Royds, C.B., C.M.G., K.B.E., M.P., R.N. (5 April 1874 – 25 March 1955) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Rochdale.
Royds was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 14 April, 1895.
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1905.
Royds was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1912.
He was appointed in command of the Bellona on 5 July, 1913,[1] through the beginning of war.[2]
He was appointed in command of the Canterbury on 24 April, 1916,[3] and commanded her in support of the Grand Fleet at the Battle of Jutland.[4]
Royds was appointed in command of the battleship Malaya in May 1921.
Royds was promoted to Rear-Admiral on 12 May 1922, and to Vice-Admiral on 1 August 1927, retiring the following day.[5]
He was advanced to Admiral on the retired list on 1 July, 1932.
Royds reported on 27 December 1938 that he was "a little lame with arthritis." He does not appear to have served in World War II.
