Commander Percy Arthur Robarts, R.N. (12 November, 1874 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
The Service Record we have for him has the wrong man's information in it.
Life & Career
On 30 January, 1903, Orwell, under Lieutenant and Commander Robarts was part of a division of six destroyers charged with conducting a night attack exercise off Corfu with all lights being extinguished. Her division was to try to break out of harbour against the blockading division of six destroyers to conduct an attack on the third class protected cruiser H.M.S. Pioneer. Orwell was judged to have been spotted and put out of action as she made her attack. Upon raising navigation lights, however, Pioneer emerged out of darkness and struck the destroyer at the forebridge, lopping off her bow which soon sank. Robarts was bodily struck by the prow of the cruiser and gamely clambered aboard her, to be returned after she towed the truncated destroyer back to Corfu. Fifteen men died in the collision.[1]
