Admiral Owen Francis Gillett, C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (8 February, 1863 – 21 March, 1938) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

He came fourth in order of merit out of forty-two candidates who passed the examination for naval cadetships.[1]

Gillett was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1885.[2]

Gillett was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1898.[3]

Gillett was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1903.[4]

He was appointed in command of Jupiter on 13 May, 1908.[5]

Great War

Gillett was appointed Senior Naval Officer, Simonstown, on 2 June, 1914.[6]

Gillett was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 September, 1914, vice Farquhar.[7] He was placed on the Retired List on 26 May, 1915, at his own request.[8]

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 3 June, 1918.[9]

He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 12 February, 1919,[10] and to the rank of Admiral on 3 March, 1924.[11]
