Captain (retired) Oswald Ernest Hallifax, D.S.O., R.N. (12 November, 1888 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hallifax was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1910.

Hallifax was in command of the submarine D 7 on 12 September, 1917 when she sank U 45 off the north tip of Ireland at 55deg 48' N, 7deg30' W..[1] This claim was certain, with two survivors being recovered.

It is possible, from his handwritten service record, that his command appointment for B 11 in May 1918 is actually of another submarine.

Post-War

Hallifax was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1918.

Hallifax was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1924.

Hallifax was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 1 November, 1935.
