Admiral Norman Craig Palmer, C.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (20 August, 1866 – 12 January, 1926) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

For "special service in effecting the capture of a Slave Dhow on the East Coast of Africa", Palmer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 June, 1888.[1]

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1899.[2]

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1904.[3]

In May 1905, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Highflyer.[4]

Directly thereafter, assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Royal Arthur in July 1906, remaining with her about one year.[5]

Palmer was appointed captain of Aboukir on 9 March, 1909.[6]

On the occasion of the visit of the King to Malta Palmer was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 24 April, 1909.[7]

Palmer was appointed a Naval Aide-Camp to King George V dated 4 June, 1913, vice Pakenham.[8] He was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) on 13 October.[9] He was appointed in command of Conqueror on 16 December.[10]

Great War

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 18 December, 1914, vice Eyres.[11]

Post-War

Palmer was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 August, 1919.[12] He was placed on the Retired List on 2 August.[13]

He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 31 July, 1924.[14]
