Captain (retired) Nevill Glennie Garnons-Williams, M.B.E. (2 October, 1899 – 1983) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Reverend A. G. Williams. He was likely the younger brother of Gerald Aylmer Garnons-Williams. Garnons-Williams was appointed to the battlecruiser Lion upon passing out of the Training Establishment on 1 July 1915.[1] In this capacity, he found himself as a Midshipman in personal attendance to Admiral Beatty during the battle of Jutland, during which he oversaw fire fighting measures to dispose of an enemy shell that wound up on board.<Abercamlais.com website</ref>

Garnons-Williams was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1919. He did not leave Lion until being sent to attend courses at Cambridge University on 10 October 1919.[2]

Garnons-Williams was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1927.[3]

Garnons-Williams was promoted to the rank of Commander 30 June, 1933.[4]

In 1937 he was operated on for appendicitis. He was found fit in July at Haslar.[5]

World War II

He was appointed to the rather intriguing post of Naval Assistant to the Director of Guided Projectiles in 1945, serving in the acting rank of Captain in this appointment.[6]

He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 6 October 1946 and granted a war service rank of Captain (retired).[7]
