Admiral Lindesay Brine, F.R.G.S., Royal Navy, Retired (5 November, 1834 – 2 February, 1906) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

For service at the defence of Eupatoria he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant dated 27 November, 1854, provided that he passed the necessary examination and was qualified.[1]

Brine was promoted to the rank of Captain on 16 October, 1868.[2]

After Sir Anthony H. Hoskins was appointed to the Board of Admiralty, and before his successor, Rear-Admiral John K. E. Baird could return to take up the position in September, Brine undertook the work of Admiral Superintendent of Naval Reserves.[3]

Brine was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 January, 1886.[4] He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 28 December, 1891, vice Barnardiston.[5] In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 4 December, 1878, he was placed on the Retired List dated 5 November, 1894.[6]

Brine was promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 23 August, 1897.[7]
