Rear-Admiral Leonard Stanley Holbrook, M.V.O. (30 March, 1882 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Southsea the son of newspaper proprietor Arthur Richard Holbrook.[1]

He passed out of Britannia in December, 1897 ranked twelfth of the sixty-four cadets who passed out, with 1722 marks.[2]

Holbrook was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1902.[3]

Holbrook was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1910.[4]

Holbrook was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1914.[5]

Holbrook was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1920.[6]

Holbrook was appointed in command of the light cruiser Curlew in November, 1922.

Holbrook was appointed in command of the light cruiser Calliope in December, 1927.

In December, 1928, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Birmingham.

Holbrook was loaned to the Royal Australian Navy for temporary duty as Second Naval Member of the Commonwealth Naval Board on 19 April, 1929. This evolved into service as Commodore, First Class in command of H.M. Australian Squadron, he being placed in the heavy cruiser Canberra.

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 15 October, 1932 and placed on the Retired List the following day in accordance with Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.[7]

World War II

Holbrook was reverted to the Retired List on 9 February, 1946.[8]
