Commander (retired) Leonard George Addington, D.S.C. (18 August, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of Major W. L. Addington.
Addington was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 March, 1915. Addington may have been briefly in command of the ship on 4 May 1915 at Gabe Tepe, where he twice volunteered to go in by boat to take out wounded men despite being exposed to close range machine gun fire. He served in Usk until April 1916, and was then appointed to the old gunboat Foxhound as her first Lieutenant. On 23 August 1917 he was appointed to Warspite as assistant navigating officer. On 29 October, he was appointed to the monitor General Craufurd as navigating officer, where he served for the rest of the war.[1]
Addington was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 March, 1923.[2]
Addington was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 18 August, 1937.[3]
