Campbell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 August, 1914.

On 30 August, 1912, Campbell was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant.[2]

Campbell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 August, 1922.

Campbell was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 23 October, 1934.
