Rear-Admiral Julian Francis Chichester Patterson, O.B.E. (6 May, 1884 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy

Life & Career

Patterson gained four months' time on passing out of Britannia and was appointed temporarily to Hannibal in mid-May 1900 to await the commissioning of H.M.S. Glory.

Patterson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 January, 1904 and won the Beaufort Medal for that year. In the annual manoeuvres of that year, he was given command of T.B. 27 and incurred Their Lordships' displeasure by colliding with a steamship. Perhaps as a result, it was recommended him "for gunnery duties in a small ship."[1]

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 January, 1912.[2]

Patterson was appointed gunnery officer of Orion on 3 January, 1914, remaining in that position through 1917.[Citation needed]

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1915.[3]

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1921.[4]

He was appointed in command of the battlecruiser Hood on 27 April, 1931.[5]

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 October, 1933.[6]
