John Walsh Carrington
Vice-Admiral John Walsh Carrington, D.S.O., O.B.E., Royal Navy (5 January, 1879 – 15 November, 1964) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Carrington was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1900.[1]
Carrington was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1912.[2]
Carrington served as Navigating Officer of King George V at the Battle of Jutland.
He was promoted to Captain on 31 December, 1917.[3]
Post-War
On 1 January, 1919, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Carlisle.[4]
On 2 December, 1924, Carrington became Captain in Command of Portsmouth Navigation School.[5]
He commanded Valiant from March 1927 until September 1928.
He was promoted to Rear-Admiral on 23 May, 1929.[6]
Carrington was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 August, 1930. He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 11 February, 1934.[7]
In 1938, accepted an appointment as an Air Raid Warden after first checking that the Navy would not require him in the event of a mobilisation.[8]
