Admiral John Robert Ebenezer Pattisson, Royal Navy, Retired (10 December, 1844 – 13 February, 1928) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

Pattisson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 21 June, 1867.[1]

Pattisson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 3 July, 1879.[2]

Pattisson was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1886.[3] On 12 May, 1887, he was appointed in command of Thalia. He paid her off on 21 August, 1888.[4] On the very next day, he was appointed in command of the Indian troopship Euphrates.[5][6] He was loaned to Melpomene for manoeuvres in 1889, and returned to Euphrates until being superseded in her on 25 August, 1891, in March of 1891 being scolded for damaging Euphrate's Steam Pinnace no. 170 in the Suez Canal through a lack of precaution.[7]

His service in command of troopships continued when he was appointed in temporary command of Crocodile on 24 September, 1891. On 29 November, Crocodile collided with a railway viaduct at Portsmouth, but a Court of Inquiry concluded that no blame was attached to Pattisson in the misadventure. Pattisson gave up command of Crocodile on 8 December, 1891. He was appointed to Amphion ten days later, to take command when she was re-commissioned He would be in that appointment for just over two years.[8]

Flag Rank

Pattisson was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 26 October, 1899, vice Vander-Meulen.[9]

Pattisson was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 26 November, 1904, vice Fellowes. In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 27 November.[10]

He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 30 June, 1908.[11]

Pattisson succumbed to syncope and senile decay at Rodbourne, Tonbridge on 13 February, 1928.[12]
