Commander John Reginald Hughes D'Aeth, (7 February, 1899 – 7 July, 1940) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

He went direct to sea upon outbreak of the war, serving as a Midshipman in Charybdis, Zealandia and Hindustan before joining the convoy sloop Chrysanthemum as a Sub-Lieutenant in 1918.[1]

D'Aeth was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1934.[2]

World War II

Appointed to the light cruiser Gloucester as executive officer on 11 June, 1938, D'Aeth was apparently among the eighteen men killed when she was struck by Italian bombers in the Mediterranean on 7 July, 1940.
