Sub-Lieutenant John Preston Churchill, (21 November, 1883 – 18 March, 1904) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Orford Churchill.

Churchill was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 15 September, 1902.

Churchill was appointed for instruction in submarines on 1 January, 1904 and died soon thereafter on 18 March, when the submarine A 1 was run down by the liner Berwick Castle, becoming along with Lieutenant in Command Loftus Charles Ogilvy Mansergh one of the first two Royal Navy officers to die in a submarine accident.
