Commander John Leslie Younghusband, D.S.C., R.N. (8 September, 1899 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Army Colonel L. N. Younghusband.

Younghusband served in the pre-dreadnought battleship Russell from the outbreak of war until 8 November, 1915 when he was directed to transfer to the battleship Commonwealth. When she paid off in August 1917, he was lent to Arrogant for a period that was planned to be three weeks but turned into nine weeks. Following an eight-day Torpedo Control course at H.M.S. Vernon, Younghusband was appointed to the patrol boat P38.[1]

On 8 March 1918, he was superseded in the patrol boat and underwent a two and a half week course in destroyer gunnery at H.M.S. Excellent. He was then appointed to the "W" Class destroyer Waterhen in July 1918 and served in her through the end of the war.[2]

Younghusband was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 December, 1919.[3]

Younghusband was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 December, 1927.[4]

World War II

Younghusband was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 8 September, 1944.[5]
