Vice-Admiral (retired) John Guy Protheroe Vivian, C.B., R.N. (25 June, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a reverend.

Vivian was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1908. He served as first and navigating officer in Venus from June 1914 to October 1917, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1916. In 1918 he served briefly in Dreadnought before being appointed to Iron Duke as navigating officer in May.[1]

Vivian was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1920.[2]

Vivian was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1928.[3]

Vivian was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 1 August, 1939. An appointment as Senior Naval Officer, Yangste vice Holt dated 27 October was cancelled.[4]

Vivian was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 29 October, 1944.[5]
