Rear-Admiral James Powell, D.S.O., R.N. (19 June, 1887 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in London, the son of J. Powell, Esq..

Powell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 December, 1908.

In the Gerat War, Powell served as navigating officer in Faulknor until being placed in Royalist for the same work on 2 January, 1916. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 December, 1916 and on 8 July 1918 was appointed navigator in Donegal.

Powell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1922.

Powell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1927.

World War II

Powell was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 30 June, 1940.

In February 1944 he was made Commodore, Second Class Superintendent, Taranto and Italian Ports, vice F[illeg].
