Illtyd Arthur Stewart Hutton

Lieutenant-Commander Illtyd Arthur Stewart Hutton, R.N. (23 June, 1882 – 2 April, 1921) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Arthur C. A. Hutton, a merchant.

Hutton entered the Royal Navy with the January, 1897 intake term at H.M.S. Britannia, passing in tied for eleventh of sixty-three in order of merit with 1441 marks in the competitive entrance examinations.

Hutton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 March, 1904. He was qualified as an interpreter in Chinese and French.

Hutton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 March, 1912. At the beginning of the war, he was appointed to the French Template:FR-Dupleix by the Commander-in-Chief, China. On 24 December 1914 he was placed in London as first Lt. Cdr. and as acting interpreter in French.

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 7 September, 1921. This was post-dated to 31 December, 1920.
