Hugh Dundas Hamilton (16 August, 1882 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hamilton was born in Kensington and was raised by his mother, Adelaide.[1]

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1904.[2]

Hamilton was appointed as gunnery officer of battleship Bellerophon on 10 April, 1912. He would remain in her into the final year of the war.[3]

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1912.[4]

The Great War

As gunnery officer in Bellerophon, Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1915.[5]

He married Marion Edith Cloete on 24 June, 1916. He was superseded in Bellerophon on 31 January, 1918. On 1 March, he was appointed Flag Commander to Admiral Sturdee, then serving as Commander-in-Chief at the Nore.[6]

Post-War

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1920.[7]

Hamilton was appointed in command of the light cruiser Caradoc in August, 1924.[8]

Hamilton was appointed in command of the battleship Royal Oak in March, 1928.[9]

Hamilton was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 4 January, 1933 and was placed on the Retired List on 5 January in accordance with Order in Council of 9 March, 1914.[10]

World War II

Hamilton was reverted to the Retired List on 18 June, 1944.[11]
