Captain Hubert Henry de Burgh, D.S.O., R.N., Retired (16 February, 1879 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

de Burgh was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1901.[1]

de Burgh was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1909.

de Burgh was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1916.

de Burgh was appointed in command of the submarine Satyr on 10 March, 1918.[2]

Post-War

de Burgh was appointed in command of the former Russian patrol boat Rassvet in March, 1920. He was re-appointed when she was re-commissioned (possibly as H.M.S. Surprise?), and left when she paid off on 31 March, 1922.

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 1 January, 1923.

de Burgh was promoted to the rank of Captain on 16 February, 1924.

World War II

de Burgh was to take command of a newer Armed Merchant Cruiser some time after 16 September, 1939. Apparently the one selected was Forfar. He commanded her until being superseded by Henry Neville Lake on 13 November, 1939.[3]
