Captain (retired) Hubert George Alston, (15 July, 1866 – ) served in the Royal Navy and the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Alston was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 October, 1895.[1]

Serving in the R.N.R., Alston served in Empress of India in 1896 and 1897. At some point, he was transferred into the Royal Navy.[2]

While serving ashore at Portsmouth, Alston was praised by the Admiralty when he dispatched help to assist the first-class torpedo boat H.M. T.B. 059 which had grounded on Bembridge Ledge during manoeuvres on the night of 16 December, 1908.[3]

He was placed on the Retired list at his own request with a step in rank on 6 November, 1909.[4]

On 12 October 1914 he was appointed in command of the armed yacht Hecate, remaining there until 9 March 1915 when he was appointed to the Shetland Islands for shore service, eventually being placed in charge of Auxiliary Patrol Area II.
