Commander (retired) Horace Walker (17 March, 1885 – 14 November, 1955) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Walker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1906.[1]

Walker was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1914.[2]

Walker was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 28 on 4 June, 1912,[3] and again as Lieutenant in Command on 29 July, 1914.[4]

Walker was appointed in command of the destroyer Mindful on 17 April, 1918.[5]

Post-War

He was appointed in command of the destroyer Radstock on 1 October, 1919.[6]

On 13 November 1923, Walker was placed in command of a group of destroyers in reserve, being borne on the books of Woolwich. Similar work interspersed with unpaid time carried him into late 1926, when he found himself briefly in Marshal Soult and Castor. After being superseded in March, Walker was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Commander on 1 June, 1927.[7]

World War II

Despite the fact that he was suffering from a slight heart disability, Walker was called up in December 1939 and placed in charge of Immingham. In 1941, he was appointed to Quebec, additional, as Maintenance Commander vice the sick John Bertram Aubrey Marsden-Smedley. On 8 March 1944, Walker was appointed in command of the escort carrier Archer vice Bickley.[8]
