Herbert Paris Barton

Commander (retired) Herbert Paris Barton, (23 July, 1861 – 22 August, 1939) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in Etchingham, Sussex.
Early on, Barton displayed a knack for signaling while at the boys' training ship H.M.S. Boscawen.
Barton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1884.
Barton was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander on 23 July, 1906.
Barton was appointed to the shore establishment H.M.S. Scotia on 9 August, 1914. He was sent to hospital on 19 May, 1915 with heart problems, but the diagnosis was altered to alcoholism and it was concluded that he would be unlikely to be made fit for service afloat. Barton was reverted to the Retired List on 2 June, 1915.
