Captain (retired) Herbert Norris Hunter, R.N. (26 October, 1873 – 27 January, 1950) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of a Major General.
Hunter was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1895.
Hunter was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1906.
Hunter was conspicuous for his drinking. In August 1909 he was noted as drinking more than was "good for the efficient performance of his duties." On 27 September, Captain Predergast wrote that he was "doubtful that this officer will ever be able to entirely overcome his weakness for liquor." He was also placed on half pay after he was reportedly drunk at a dinner of the Captain Superintendent of Sheerness.
Hunter was retired at his own request at half the pay for his rank and without invitation for further service on 1 April, 1911.
