Commander (emergency) Herbert Francis Littledale', R.N. (24 April, 1882 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Army Captain Henry Arthur Littledale.

Littledale was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 April, 1905.

Littledale was appointed Lieutenant & Commander of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 3 on 22 July, 1909.[1]

His part in a war exercise snafu in which "attacking" torpedo boats were captured before even letting loose from the jetty is described in Lionel George Dawson's book, Flotillas.[2]

On 14 March, 1912, Littledale was appointed in command of the destroyer Archer.[3]

Littledale was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 April, 1913.

He deserted on 17 June 1916 and reported that he had enlisted in the army.

Post-War

World War II

In 1939, Littledale was placed on the Emergency List with a seniority of 1 April, 1913.

Littledale was promoted to the rank of Commander (emergency) on 8 May, 1946.
