Admiral SIR Herbert Edward Purey-Cust, K.B.E., C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (26 February, 1857 – 11 November, 1938) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant from the Royal Yacht Victoria and Albert with seniority of 13 September, 1878.[1]

Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1894.[2] He was appointed in command of the gun vessel Rambler dated 4 November, 1897.[3]

Captain

Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1900.[4]

Retirement

Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 21 February, 1910, vice Fraser.[5]

On the occasion of King George V's coronation he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 19 June, 1911.[6]

In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List, at his own request, dated 19 December, 1912.[7]

Great War

Purey-Cust was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 24 October, 1915.[8] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 January, 1919.[9] He was appointed a Commander in the Military Division of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) on 1 January.[10] In recognition of his services during the war, on the occasion of the King's birthday Purey-Cust was appointed a Knight Commander of the Military Division of the Order of the British Empire (K.B.E.) on 3 June.[11]
