Captain Henry Savile, R.N. (2 March, 1854 – 1 November, 1914) served in the Royal Navy.

It appears the single service record we have for him ends before his career does.

Life & Career

The son of Reverend Bourchier Wrey Savile.

Savile was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 16 April, 1878.

Savile was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1893.

In November, 1896 he appears to have attracted attention to himself by giving a speech in which he spoke of Admiralty intentions to establish a torpedo boat base at Dartmouth. It was thought that greater reticence should be adhered to in publicising such plans.

Savile died at Portsmouth aboard the H.M. yacht Portia, aged 60.[1]
