Admiral SIR Henry Hervey Campbell, K.C.V.O., C.B., Royal Navy, Retired (27 February, 1865 – 12 February, 1933) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Campbell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 21 November, 1886.[1]

Campbell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1898.[2]

Captain

Campbell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 26 June, 1902.[3] He was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 14 October.[4]

He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King George V on 20 March, 1911, vice Moore.[5] He was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) dated 24 October.[6]

Flag Rank

Campbell was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 20 September, 1912, vice Burney.[7]

In July, 1914 it was announced that Campbell would succeed Rear-Admiral Stuart Nicholson as Rear-Admiral in the Home Fleets at the Nore on 5 December.[8] On 26 July, Campbell struck his flag at Sheerness.[9]

Great War

Campbell was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, of the Civil Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 1 January, 1917.[10] He was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 17 February.[11] On 1 July, he was appointed a Groom-in-Waiting in Ordinary to the King.[12] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 23 October.[13]

Retirement

Campbell was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 16 May, 1921.[14] He was appointed a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) on 1 January, 1930.[15]
