Commander Hamilton Edward Snepp (10 November, 1889 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Snepp was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1900.[1]

In 1910, Snepp applied for submarine service, but he never received an appointment for training. In 1912, while serving in the destroyer depot ship St. George, he qualified for duty in torpedo boats. He had to wait until 13 August, 1913 before being appointed to Saracen as first officer. On 28 March, 1914, he was appointed to the Acasta Class destroyer Unity to serve in the same capacity.[2]

Great War

Snepp was in Unity when she rallied as one of seven Fourth Destroyer Flotilla destroyers to resist the Scarborough Raid of 16 December, 1914. Snepp was removed from Unity by Captain (D) Charles John Wintour five days after the action, as Snepp was suffering from nervous strain in the wake of the battle. He was found fit on 13 January, 1915. His next several appointments seem chosen to keep a relapse from occurring, being first in Terrible for navigational purposes and then for special service from President and then Queen Victoria where he would be for 15 months.[3]

Snepp returned to the sea when appointed to Ribble in May, 1916. On 25 September, he was appointed in command of the destroyer Arno.

Snepp was appointed in command of the destroyer Noble on 18 May, 1918.

Post-War

Snepp was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1919.[4]

On 5 June, 1920, Snepp was appointed in command of the destroyer Turquoise.

Snepp was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1925.[5]
