H.M. T.B. 80 (1886)
Builder: Yarrow[1]
Ordered: 1885-1886 Programme[2]
Launched: 1886[3]
Completed: May 1887[4]
Sold: 22 October, 1921[5]
H.M. T.B. 80 was built by Yarrow to a design which had been first crafted for Austria's Flake.

Service

She was reboilered in 1888, after which she had two funnels instead of one.[6]

In 1895, she was one of thirteen torpedo boats of 125 feet or greater length and four smaller ones stationed in Devonport.[7] She participated in the 1895 Naval Manoeuvres but was found to be "a source of great trouble ... and was certainly not in a fit condition to be sent to an exercise where speed was the first consideration."[8]

Sold to J. E. Thomas on 22 October, 1921.[9]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.

Armament

  • one fixed 14 inch torpedo tube.
  • twin deck torpedo tubes.
  • three 3-pounder guns.[35]
