Service

In 1881, there were twenty T.B.s in all; T.B. 4 was reported as "not fitted" for Whitehead and serving out of Chatham with T.B.s 6 and 14. There was some noted lethargy in getting these boats all armed.[3]

She was still at Chatham in 1895, one of two T.B.s of less than 125 feet, along with eight of greater length.[4]
