H.M. T.B. 15 was one of 19 first-class torpedo boats of the T.B. 1 class.

Construction

She was the only torpedo boat ordered from Hanna, Donald & Wilson by the Admiralty, although the company was given an order for a Royal Indian Marine torpedo boat by the India Office and this ship subsequently became the Royal Navy's T.B. 100.[6] The lack of follow-up orders is unclear, as none of the major sources give details of T.B. 15's seaworthiness or reliability, but it may be explained by the extensive troubles encountered with this company's destroyers Fervent and Zephyr, neither of which were very successful in service and required extensive work before being accepted for service.[7]

Service

In 1881, there were twenty first-class torpedo boats in all, and T.B. 15 was partly fitted for Whitehead and one of eleven boats serving out of Portsmouth.[8] She was sent to the Cape of Good Hope soon after this.[9]
