H.M.S. Watchman was one of twenty-one "W" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1917-18.

Service

Watchman joined the Eleventh Destroyer Flotilla in February, 1918[7] and and remained with that formation until it was disbanded in March, 1919, at which point she was allocated along with the Eleventh's other "V"s and "W"s to the newly-fashioned First Destroyer Flotilla.[8]

She re-commissioned at Devonport on 9 December, 1920.[9]

She was re-commissioned at Devonport on 3 May, 1923 to serve with the First Destroyer Flotilla as part of the Atlantic Fleet.[10]

Commissioned under command of Eric Paul Vivian on 11 November, 1926 to serve with the Fifth Destroyer Flotilla as part of the Atlantic Fleet.[11]

Watchman was re-commissioned on 4 September, 1928 for service with the Fifth Destroyer Flotilla as part of the Atlantic Fleet.[12]

She was re-commissioned at Devonport on 11 November, 1930 and returned to work with 5DF.[13] She remained with them into at least 1933 after that formation became attacked to Home Fleet.[14]
