H.M.S. Sceptre (1917)
Pendant Number: F.79 (Jan 1917)
F.60 (Jan 1918)[1]
Builder: Alexander Stephen & Sons[2]
Ordered: Jul 1915 (6th Order)[3][4]
Launched: 18 Apr, 1917[5]
Completed: 26 May, 1917[6]
Sold: 16 Dec, 1926[7]

H.M.S. Sceptre was one of sixty-two "R" class destroyers completed for the Royal Navy in 1916-17.

Service

The ship proposed the creation of Sceptre Gear, a series of shapes and marks on a scale in the rigging to convey the range and deflection being used for gunnery by the lead ship in concentration firing. By early 1918, improved versions of these systems were coordinating divisional, half-flotilla, and even walking barrage firing.[8]

On 17 July 1917, Sceptre shot down a Zeppelin.[Citation needed]

She reduced to reduced Complement at Devonport on 15 October, 1919.[9]
