Completed in 1903, H.M.S. Russell was the first of six battleships of her class to be commissioned.

Career

Russell was launched at Jarrow-on-Tyne on 19 February, 1901, by Mrs. McLaren, wife of Charles McLaren, chairman of the Palmer Shipbuilding and Iron Company.[8]

Russell commissioned at Chatham on 19 February, 1903, under Captain Alfred L. Winsloe, to relieve the Canopus in the Mediterranean.[9]
