H.M.S. Philomel was one of nine cruisers of the Pearl class completed for the Royal Navy in 1891 and 1892.

Service

Philomel re-commissioned at Aden on 4 October, 1911 for service in the East Indies.[6]

Philomel arrived at Colombo under the command of Commander George Norman Ballard on 29 September 1913, and left on 2 October for Singapore.[7]

The cruiser re-commissioned "abroad" on 20 April, 1917.[8]

She re-commissioned in Wellington, New Zealand on 1 March, 1921. By March 1925 she was serving as a training and depot ship at Auckland,[9] serving there through at least early 1933.[10]
