H.M.S. Orwell was one of twenty-four "B" class destroyers built for the Royal Navy — a "30 knotter".

Service

On 30 January, 1903, Orwell collided with the third class protected cruiser H.M.S. Pioneer in Corfu Channel while under the command of Lieutenant Percy Arthur Robarts. Fifteen men died, the majority being drowned in the sinking bow section. Orwell was towed back to Corfu, eventually to have her bow replaced and to return to service.[8][9][10]

Orwell arrived at Malta on 2 February 1904 in company with six other destroyers.[11]

In mid-1913, active with the Seventh Destroyer Flotilla.[12]

Captains

Dates of appointment are provided when known.

Some Lieutenant & Commander "John W. Pugh" was appointed on 21 November, 1906, but I cannot determine exactly what his full name is.[35]
