H.M.S. North Star was one of one hundred and three destroyers of the "M" class built for the Royal Navy during the Great War.

Lieutenant-Commander Kenneth Cary Helyar was mentioned in despatches for destroying an enemy explosive motor boat on 3 November, 1917 while in command of North Star.[6]
