H.M.S. Mentor was one of one hundred and three destroyers of the "M" class built for the Royal Navy during the Great War.

Service

At the Battle of Dogger Bank on 24 January 1915, Mentor fired three torpedoes at 11:30am, securing (it was believed and reported) a single hit.[6]

She struck a mine near Horn's Reef on 18 August, 1915, sustaining damage only to her now.

Her bow was again damaged in a collision later in the war.

On 23–24 April 1918, she participated in the First Ostend Raid.[Citation needed]

Reduced to C. & M. Party at Devonport on 15 October, 1919.[7]

Alterations

In 1915 or 1916, she was one of sixteen light cruisers and destroyers to trial a Wise Pressure Telegraphy System Type B for torpedo control.[18]
